Faro Airport to hold full-scale emergency exercise

On December 15, between 12:15 a.m. and 03:00 a.m., the Emergency Plan of Faro Airport will tested by means of a full-scale emergency exercise involving various entities that provide support to victims in the event of an air accident.

The exercise will be held in the airport area and will serve to test the intervention of means of support in emergency situations involving an aircraft.

The holding of this type of exercise is mandatory in order to maintain the Aerodrome Certificate and must be carried out every two years at least. The test is supervised by the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC).

The emergency test will gauge the effectiveness of the internal and external life-saving rescue means in a simulated accident involving an aircraft.

Besides the airport services, security forces and ground-assistance handling services, other outside entities will be involved. These include Regional and Municipal Civil Defence organisations, firefighters, public health services and the appropriate civil and military authorities required to quickly resolve the situation, taking into account the dimension of the event.

An unusually heavy amount of emergency vehicle traffic can be expected on the public thoroughfares leading to the Airport and Faro Hospital.

The exercise is closed to the press.
