EasyJet to open a operational base in Porto Airport in 2015

easyJet, Europe’s leading airline, and the UK’s largest, has today announced the opening from spring 2015 onwards, of a new operational base in the Porto Airport.

Easyjet will allocate two A320 aircraft at the Porto Airport, enhancing the product offering for leisure and business passengers on routes to Europe and creating 80 direct jobs.

The opening of this route reinforces Porto Airport position as leader airport in the Iberian Peninsula Northwest and 6th Iberian airport (exc. islands).

At Porto, easyJet currently operates 6 scheduled routes to: Geneva, Charles de Gaulle, Basel, London Gatwick, Lyon and Toulouse.

This new base in Porto is the second in Portugal after having opened one at Lisbon Airport in April 2012.

In 2013, easyJet, was the third operator within ANA airports network, a subsidiary of VINCI Airports, carrying almost 4 million passengers. easyJet is the second biggest operator in Lisbon (1,8M pax), Faro (1,1M pax) and Funchal (0,3M pax) and the third at Porto (0,8M pax).

easyJet also operates at Nantes and Grenoble airports, both part of VINCI Airports network.

The opening of a new base from easyJet at Porto is a clear demonstration of its commitment to Portugal, being supported in factors such as:

- the dynamics of touristic growth in the north region and its economic development (Porto, Douro, and Galiza), that can be seen by the recent development of Porto Airport;
- ten years ago, Oporto Airport, handled less than 3 million passengers, in 2013, 6,4 million pax were served. In this period, the airport doubled the number of direct destinations, offering 68 flight destinations;
- the airport  infrastructure quality and capacity, as well as the services and commercial offer – Third Best European Airport, in his category, in 2013;
 - the predictability and stability of airport charges to be expected over the next years;
- the excellent relation and partnership with ANA/VINCI Airports at all levels – route development, commercial and operational, key to the success of this business.

VINCI Airports aims to achieve a balanced development of its airports network, looking forward to fulfill the needs and expectations of the different regions.
