The Role of Regional Airports in the European Economy is debated in Madeira

 

For the first time Madeira Island is hosting a Congress of the Airports Council International – Europe (ACI), from the 12th to the 14th of May. This is the seventh Conference related to Regional Airports (Airports that handle less than 5 million passengers/ year) organized by this European entity, that covers different subjects regarding aviation. This meeting will bring to Madeira a wide range of speakers and about 200 delegates.

Madeira Airports, part of ANA and VINCI Group, will be the host of this major event. 2014 is the year for airline companies, airports, journalists, hoteliers, in a wide panel of nearly forty speakers to give their contribution in a Congress that will brings to Madeira about 200 people. “Changing times for Regional Airports as engines for economic and social development” is the designation of this conference that will take place at VidaMar Resort in May.

These types of forum aim to aggregate the interests of Regional Airports in ACI Europe, the entity that represents them within the EU.

ACI Europe is focused on increasing the visibility of Regional Airports as a major economic engine for European Regions in terms of safeguarding connections and mobility for their citizens. It is also a goal of ACI Europe to be the main European platform for the developing, sharing and debating knowledge of relevant matters to the Aviation World.

This major event is contextualized not only by the importance of Madeira Airports to the local economy but also by the important role played by VINCI Airports in International airport management.

During the seventh ACI Regional Conference, seven work sessions will be held, divided into topics such as route development, increasing of connections, the development of the Non-Aviation Business Areas, the adjustment of airports, airline companies and passengers to the new security regulations laid by the European Union, as well as a session on Airport Security.

At this event we will have the presence of more than forty speakers, such as Olivier Jankovec, the General Director of the ACI Europe, Nicolas Notebaert, the President of Vinci Airports, the representatives from several Airports, such as Birmingham, Malta, Shannon, Vilnius, Liege, London City, Dubrovnick, Lyon and Lisbon, and Airline Companies, such as TAP, Easyjet, Hop! and AirBerlin. We will also have an important range of consultants, hoteliers and service suppliers.

The opening session will have as keynote speaker His Excellency, the President of Madeira Regional Government, Dr. Alberto João Jardim.
