ANA begins consultations for adjustment of regulated fees for 2016

On 1 August, ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, S.A. began the process of consultations for the adjustment of the regulated fees for 2016. At a time when the national airports, all managed by ANA, are experiencing a significant growth in traffic, which will lead the concessionaire to make investments of over 250 million euros in the next four years, ANA is proposing an average increase of 2.93 % in its regulated fees for the entire network of its airports.

The adoption of a proactive business strategy has allowed ANA to strengthen the situation of growth in the tourist demand and present an overall growth in traffic higher than the European average. After a growth of 9.5 % in 2014, so far this year, the overall growth in the commercial passenger traffic is over 10 %.

To meet the challenge of this growth in traffic, ANA has been carrying out a major plan of investments with the goal of guaranteeing that the airports have, and will continue to have in the future, competitive conditions suited to the challenges of the market. In the next four years, ANA will invest over 250 million euros in the development of infrastructures, in order to increase the capacity, safety, quality and efficiency of the service provided to the airline companies.

Applying the terms of the Concession Contract will mean the average increase proposed for the regulated fees of the ANA network will be 2.93 % in 2016. This corresponds to an increase of 4.56 % at the Lisbon Airport, 1.52 % at the Porto Airport, 1.02 % at the Faro Airport, and 0.73 % in the Airports of the Azores. At the Airports of Madeira, there will be a decrease of -1.02 %.

Despite this adjustment in the rates, the national airports will retain a strong competitive position, especially at the Lisbon Airport, where the fees will continue to be significantly lower than those at the comparable European airports. Even with this adjustment, and in real numbers, ANA’s average revenue per passenger at the airports of the Lisbon Group (Lisbon, Azores, Madeira and Beja) will be identical to the revenues the concessionaire recorded in 2009. At the Porto Airport, the revenue, at constant prices, is lower than that recorded in 2009, by - 11.44 %, and at the Faro Airport, where it is down by -10.11 %.

The process of consultations that starts now is carried out under the terms of Law and the ANA Concession Contract and will take two months, in order to ensure total transparency and the participation and involvement of all the airline companies and other stakeholders. At the conclusion of the process of consultations, it will be up to the regulatory body (ANAC) to approve the proposed regulated fees so that they go into effect on 1 January 2016.
